Headache Relief
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
What causes a headache? Apparently, there are quite a few
causes. Research has shown that food related allergies are
a major and common headache cause. For example, caffeine,
chocolate, carbonated drinks, onions, nuts, rich foods high
in fat and sugar (especially refined sugar), sour cream,
chemically-grown and processed fruits and vegetables,
pineapple and other fruits, some legumes, hard cheeses which
contain lyramine, processed meats such as hot dogs which
contain nitrates and nitrites, preservatives, additives and
artificial flavorings (MSG, etc) and colorings in wine
(especially red wine) and food can be contributing to
headache and migraine causes.
Try eliminating one food or substance at a time to see if
you can find a cure. Also, environmental toxins in your home,
living and work environment may be a factor. A combination
of massage, acupuncture, bio-feedback, dietary and attitude
change and just SIMPLY RELAXING have been known to eliminate
or at least reduce headache pain.

Migraine and Common Headache Relief
We discussed some of the causes, now here's some relief!
For relief from headaches, and heaviness in the head caused
by stress, mental exertion and working too long at the
computer, etc., while breathing deeply, press the following
points for 5-15 seconds each. If you have the time, repeat
three times:
Step 1
Beginning at the hairline in the center of the forehead,
press points with three fingers every half inch, working over
the top of the head and ending at the top of the neck.
Step 2
Double one ear over, starting with temples, apply pressure
with index and middle finger every half inch along the bony
ridge down to the hollow under earlobe. Repeat on other side.
Step 3
Press the points on the shoulders halfway between the ends of
the shoulder blades and the base of the neck. If working on
yourself, use three fingers. If someone else is doing the
work, have them use their thumbs.
Step 4
Press the points one thumb's width up from the largest crease
on your inner wrists and directly in line with the middle
finger.
Step 5
Press the point between the eyebrows.
Step 6
Rub the tops of your big toes.
Step 7
Massage the fleshy parts of your thumbs.
Step 8
Rub the top two inches of your thumbs.
Step 9
Massage your temples, forehead and areas where the jaw himges
in small circles for 1-3 minutes.
Step 10
Massage your ears and behind the earlobes.
Step 11
Massage your entire scalp firmly.
Note: For the steps that do not specify how long, press the
points for 3 to 7 seconds each.
As a final step in reducing a headache, soak in a tub of
Epsom salts or one cup each of baking soda and sea salt. Put
a cold washcloth over your eyes and breathe deeply -
releasing all tensions as you exhale and...RELAX, RELAX,
RELAX!
Notes: Some health professionals advise headache sufferers to
avoid fat, rich sweets and fried foods. They also say to
avoid bright lights negative thinking, loud people and
noises. Recent research has suggested that having enough
magnesium in the body can help to prevent headaches. Also,
Vitamin A can help.
For migraine relief, put an ice pack on your forehead.

A Calming Technique
Lightly place a slightly cupped hand just underneath the
bony ridge across the back of your head. Put your other hand
flatly and lightly across your forehead, resting the bottom
part of the hand and fingers across the middle of your
eyebrows. Gently hold for thirty seconds or longer if
needed. This has been known to relieve headaches. It is very
comforting. For greatest relief and relaxation, breathe
deeply while doing this.

To Prevent Future Headaches
* Attempt to anticipate your headache's arrival. Write down
when, where and why they seem to occur.
* Notice early symptoms and try to intervene at the earliest
stage possible.
* Exercise regularly. Studies have shown that exercisers
have fewer headaches.
* Stay away from foods known to activate headaches in some
food-sensitive people. (Editor's note: please refer to
the list of these foods in the opening paragraph of this
chapter).
